Favorite Foodie Restaurant: McCrady’s
McCrady’s is renowned in Charleston, the first of its kind. The ambiance is tavern-like, the service impeccable, and the food is awesome. They serve only the freshest ingredients, and each dish is specially designed to be as aesthetically pleasing as it is delicious.
Favorite Lunch: Rue De Jean
This place is awesome! It’s got a phenomenal location right off of King Street The service is great, and it’s the perfect place for lunch. They have a great assortment of sandwiches which are sure to please.
Favorite Dinner: Hall’s Chophouse
I was very reluctant to accept that Hall’s would have the best steak I’ve ever eaten, since Filet Mignon is one of my favorite foods, but after one bite I was convinced!
Favorite Seafood: Amen Street and Blossom
Amen Street is my favorite Seafood restaurant. They have THE best calamari I’ve ever had, oysters from all over the country, and they are conveniently located. Blossom is the sister restaurant to Magnolia’s. Blossom has great presentation and delicious food. It’s a great place to go if you’re looking for a diverse selection, as they have both local Seafood and Low Country cuisine.
Adventure Sightseeing’s Bus Tour is very informative. They tell you about the history of Charleston. They take you all around town from the Citadel to the Battery down Rainbow Row. It’s great for people new to Charleston, and it’s not too expensive either.
The Bull Dog’s Ghost and Graveyard Tour is a lot of fun! You get to see pictures of ghosts and walk along some of United States’ oldest cemeteries. They also have a Provost Dungeon tour and an Old City Jail tour I’ve yet to try, but I’m looking forward to it!
Favorite Museum: Charleston Museum & City Gallery at Waterfront Park
The Charleston Museum is the oldest museum in the United States. It’s HUGE! It takes about 2 hours just to go through the entire museum, and really take it all in. I especially liked the Egyptian mummies and sarcophagus they had on display!
I’ve been into art since I was a child, and the City Gallery at Waterfront Park always has a nice and unique exhibit. A little off the beaten path, but a great place to visit for art enthusiasts!
I bike all the time! I love biking downtown. I go up East Bay and hang out with friends for coffee and ride down to the Battery. It’s great exercise, and Charleston is bike friendly!
One of my favorite things to do is go to the French Quarterly Art Walk. I love art so it’s always fun to see each exhibit. They serve wine and cheese at all of the Galleries on Broad Street.
The Farmer’s Market takes place every Saturday at Marion Square. They have the freshest food and the best breakfast in town, highly recommended!
I also like to go to the beach in my downtime, to go fishing with my Dad on Seabrook Island. It’s a little slice of heaven! Most times I’ll sea dolphins swimming while fishing on the surf!

Favorite Things To Do Around Charleston!
When guests are in town visiting Charleston, it's common to hear them asking our staff what their favorite things are to do around town. Sam has been living in Charleston for 7 years now, and below are a few of his favorites:
Your Favorite Place To Have Lunch? "One of my favorite places to grab lunch has to be Leaf. Located just a few blocks from the Hotel, it has a great atmosphere and outdoor seating."
What About Dinner and Nightlife? "As far as dinner goes, Folly Beach's Taco Boy and Bowens Island are my local favorites. Downtown, definitely O-Ku, Basil, and Hank's Seafood - they are just a few of the many choices available. Charleston has so many awesome food options available, and oh, don't forget the late night snacks from the local street meat vendors!"
"For night life, Charleston's Music Farm is definitely the venue to check out for local and out of town bands! AC's Bar and Grill or The Royal American are also two great local hot spots for icy cold beverages."
What Do You Do On Your Days Off? "On days off, there's nothing like going fishing with my buddies all day! Being out on the boat, over on the Johns and James Island rivers and waterways, is definitely the best."
Expansive New Suite Now Available at the Restoration On King in Charleston, S.C.
Charleston’s only luxury two-story suite now available in award-winning hotel
Charleston, S.C. – Positioned on the corner of one of Charleston’s most famous streets, the Restoration on King offers a prime location for enjoying the charm and treasures of this historic city. Rounding off the award-winning hotel’s design is the recently renovated Suite 201, which officially premieres this month.
The ROK’s largest suite, newly restored after a six-month renovation, is a rarity in Charleston – this two-bedroom, two-story space, featuring nearly 1,600 square feet of interior space, is more like a private townhouse than a hotel suite. Custom touches include exposed brick throughout, and in the bathroom upstairs, exposed beams, a windowed vanity and a glass-walled shower. The 300-square-foot private balcony offers two private and separate seating areas – one facing the courtyard and the other facing Wentworth Street. The suite itself is also completely private, offering its own entrance to guests. Neil Stevenson Architects, acclaimed Charleston architectural firm, designed the spacious unit and M Design’s Sarah Melancon outfitted the interior space.
“Wow, is all I can say about the latest two-bedroom addition to the Restoration on King. From my own private covered porch overlooking Wentworth Street to my glass wall shower in the master bedroom, the experience of staying in Suite 201 exceeded my expectations. My wife and kids instantly felt at home and did not want to leave. We will be back soon,” said J.R. Anderson, Suite 201's first guest.
Surrounded by upscale shops, fine restaurants and the antique district, the intricately restored boutique property combines the service and comfort of a four-star hotel with the luxurious amenities of a fully furnished apartment, such as washer/dryer and a fully operating kitchen.
Charleston, recently voted the “Number One City in the United States” in Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards, continues to gain national and international momentum each year. The Charleston area boasts an exceptional variety of world-famous golf courses; most notably the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island which hosted the PGA tournament this August.

And Guests Couldn't Be Happier With The Results
Suite 201 opened earlier this month and we couldn't be more proud with how it turned out!
From the private balcony entrance with two outdoor seating areas, to the suite doorbell and great views of Wentworth Street – this two story, two bedroom suite has it all.
The very first guest to stay in the suite had this to say, “Wow is all I can say about the latest two bedroom addition to the Restoration on King. From my own private covered porch overlooking Wentworth Street to my glass wall shower in the master bedroom, the experience of staying in Unit 201 exceeded my expectations. My wife and kids instantly felt at home and did not want to leave. We will be back as soon as we can. Thanks for an amazing experience.” J.R. Anderson
We’ll have more photos and will post more information over the next couple of weeks, but the suite is booking up fast, so call our front desk at (877) 221-7202 or Check Availability Online Here >>
What Our Concierge Nicole, Likes To Do Around Charleston
We had such a great response from posting a few of Howard’s favorite things to do in and around Charleston (below), we decided to ask Nicole, our Concierge, to do the same:
Nearby Charleston Beaches?
"Anything that has to do with water, I love! Under my dad’s wing, he taught us how to fish, how to throw a cast net, set crab traps, and drive a boat. So, this is how I like to play when I have time!
The kids and I love the beaches, especially Folly Beach. Any chance we get, we’re out at Folly swimming in the waves, making castles in the sand, flying kites, and collecting seashells. We like to take walks down the Folly Pier and see if anyone had any luck catching fish. We also love to walk down to see the Morris Island Lighthouse! Folly is a great place for memorable pictures!"
Best Fresh Seafood?
"For those of you who like a little “hole in the wall” place, Bowen’s Island is a great place to check out. Bowen’s Island is known for their locally harvested oysters, simple, yet, delicious fare, and an atmosphere that’s unforgettable. Music played out there is also a wonderful touch to this great place!"
"For fresh seafood downtown, another favorite of mine would be Coast. From its laid back Lowcountry atmosphere to the fresh seafood, you cannot go wrong with this place. They make the best mojitos, so you’ll definitely want to cool off with one or three!"
Outdoor Charleston Fun?
"Charlestowne Landing is another great place we love to go and play. There’s so much to do and see here, so we plan the entire day around this trip. We love the Animal Forest! This is a 22 acre natural habitat zoo! It’s cool to check out all the different species that have lived in South Carolina. We take our bikes and love to ride through the beautifully landscaped trails. Mine and my son’s favorite has to be all the Archeological digs they have done here! These digs show you a way of life from Native Americans, to European Settlers, even African slaves that have inhabited South Carolina. We love bringing a picnic basket and just hanging out for the day, for we find something new to do and see every time we’re here."
"Another great thing about Charleston is the wide variety of art and music! The yearly Spoleto Festival is full of awesome performances and stunning artistry. During this time of year, the town is illuminated with so many choices of things to do. The Charleston Food and Wine Festival is another great introduction to the finest of things Charleston has to offer."
